Neville Edirisinghe


Neville Edirisinghe is an expert in food security, based in both Sri Lanka and the United States. After a first degree in Economics from the University of Peradeniya, he received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Cornell University. Edirisinghe has worked extensively in South Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, holding positions with the Food and Agriculture Organization, International Food Policy Research Institute (as Research Fellow and subsequently as a consultant), the International Monetary Fund, the Sri Lanka Institute for Policy Studies, the United Nations Development Program, World Bank, and the United Nations World Food Programme. For the latter Edirisinghe served as Regional Programme Advisor, Regional Bureau for North Africa, Mediterranean and Central Asia, and Policy Analyst. He is widely published in the areas of food policy and poverty alleviation.
