The Master's Degree Program in Asian Studies draws on the resources of the consortium with Syracuse University to provide areal expertise in South Asia. The program is designed for graduate students seeking an interdisciplinary degree and for professionals who need specialized training.

Students may take courses in any of Cornell's seven colleges and enroll in South Asia offerings at Syracuse University.


MA Requirements

The Master's Program in Asian Studies with a concentration in South Asia has three main requirements:

  • Residency at Cornell for at least two semesters.
  • Proficiency in a South Asia language equivalent to at least three years of study.
  • A thirty-to-fifty page thesis, which normally develops from one or more course papers.
  • While at Cornell, students are expected to develop depth in area studies through courses from core South Asia faculty and to demonstrate competence in more than one discipline.
