There are a number of opportunities for individuals who wish to engage in overseas learning while at Cornell University.

The Cornell-Nepal Study Program (CNSP) is a joint venture between Cornell University and Tribhuvan National University of Nepal, with the independent field research project as its highlight. 


The Nilgiris Field Learning Center is an interdisciplinary, collaborative effort that explores the notions of sustainable environments and livelihoods. The project takes places in Kotagiri, Tamil Nadu, which is located in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve of the Western Ghats. See a video of life as a student at NFLC.

Intercollegiate Sri Lanka Educational (ISLE) Program offers an undergraduate curriculum in Sinhala, Buddhist studies, and the culture and civilization of Sri Lanka, at Peradeniya University in Kandy. The short presentation below contains additional informationm as does the Cornell Abroad website


Program Specific: ILR / CIPA / Global Health

The Mysore, India program includes off-campus options for students in Industrial and Labor Relations, Public Affairs and Global Health.  All programs are administered through the Industrial and Labor Relations School in a partnership with Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM).

ILR SVYM India, Global Service Learning Program  ILR and GH students take courses for two-weeks at SVYM's Vivekananda Institute of Indian Studies, and, then, are placed in service projects throughout SVYM's field sites in Mysore District, Karnataka State.  Service project sites are typically determined during the spring semester, prior to students' departures.

DNS SVYM India, Global Service Learning Program The goals of this eight-week summer program are to enhance the cross-cultural competence of participants and to provide students with the opportunity to gain broad knowledge about health in the Indian context, by participating in service projects with SVYM.

CIPA SVYM: Mysore, India, Externship Semester This program specifically for Fellows at the Cornell Institute for Public Affairs. This opportunity focuses specifically in the field of development management, and would be ideal for those who choose to specialize in international development or public and nonprofit management.

Programs Outside of Cornell

Alliance for Global Education: Contemporary India is an undergraduate-focused program that introduces students to some of the most dynamic subjects in Indian society, politics, economics, and culture currently.

Alliance for Global Education: Global and Public Health at Manipal University offers U.S. undergraduates the ability to learn about the most pressing public health issues facing India.
